There are a few key wedding vendors that you are going to want to nail down early in your wedding planning process. The first thing you want to get is a venue, but after the venue the photographer, wedding DJ, catering, wedding dress, and cake are next on the list. This blog is to help you pick the best vendors by telling about what we feel helps to make the best night and the best memories. Many vendors offer several different packages and options, some of which you have to ask about to get. When you are looking for your perfect vendors make sure you ask as many questions as possible and don't be shy about asking for exactly what your looking for.
The caterer is of course key because in general people come to weddings expecting to eat. You usually don't need to have food available during the whole event, and many caterers will offer their services for an agreed upon amount of time. You can choose whatever food you want to serve at your wedding, just remember to consider that not everyone likes the same food you like, so it is often best to offer a couple different options for the main course. Also keep in mind your guests when it comes to food allergies, and try to offer a special option for those that may not be able to eat what you want to serve.
The wedding photographer is another key element of the wedding because the photos of the wedding are one of the only things you will have to remember all the fun you had. You can choose to have one or more people there shooting with most vendors, there are usually packages that include print credit, and many photographers work for a certain amount of time. While many people are happy with the "normal" photographer package, there are a few things that you should watch for when picking your wedding photographer. First of all a large amount of print credit is usually not recommended, because many couples don't ever use all of their credit. In fact, most photographers have more than one couple that never ended up using their print credit at all. The other thing to consider is when the photographer(s) is going to be done for the night. If they are for a limited amount of time, this could force you to rush some of the reception events (bouquet toss, cake cutting, etc...) which can hinder the flow of the night.
The wedding DJ is another key piece to the wedding puzzle because the DJ/MC can make or break the evening based on the announcements he/she makes and the songs they play. Also the DJ/MC is usually the person that builds the energy during the dancing portion of the night, so if you are wanting to dance make sure you have someone there that will motivate your guests to have fun! Packages and lighting options can vary, just keep in mind that the main reason to go up or down in size of speakers is based on how large the venue is and the number of guests. Also a DJ that will work for a unlimited time is great for your event, because you won't have to worry about the DJ leaving before you are ready to be done with the party.
The wedding cake and the wedding dress can be whatever you want the to be really. Just get started early looking for your favorites, because it can take longer than you think to find the perfect dress or cake. A great way to shorten your search is to ask other vendors who they prefer, because they have most likely seen many more vendors than you would want to visit yourself. Besides these key vendors you can have many other things to enhance the event, these other ideas will be on the next blog. just remember that if you have in mind what you want from your vendors, start early so they will be available on your day.
