Blog - The Wedding Date
Picking the best possible wedding date is something that all brides have to decide upon. There is actually a lot more that goes into picking a wedding date then you might expect. While you can't account for every possibility with a wedding date, there are some things to better your chance of having all your loved ones there, have great weather, and not pay peak wedding date prices.
The first thing you should know, is that many caterers, florists, tux rentals, and venues charge more during peak wedding seasons simply because they can. This time occurs during June and in a lesser extent in October. There is also the issue with venders being booked out during these peak times, especially venues, caterers, and wedding DJs. If you are set on being a June bride, however, the best advice i can give you is to get started EARLY, and by early I mean trying to plan everything 6 months out will be cutting it really close if you are wanting the best vendors. Top vendors will start booking out a year in advance for the peak times, especially popular venues.
Picking the best time for weather can be tricky. If you are planning 6 months or more in advance, it is nearly impossible to get a completely accurate weather forecast. There is, however, a secret way of forecasting weather that is far more accurate than the weather averages, this tool is the Farmer’s Almanac. This book predicts weather by solar activity, and is about 75% accurate. There are some no-brainers that a lot of brides just don't think about, like not having an outdoor ceremony during the hottest summer months. While the venue may be beautiful outside, it is usually not worth standing in a long dress and forcing friends and family (especially kids and elderly) to sit out in 100+ degree temperatures just to have a pretty background. This also works with winter months, all though I have seen one ceremony in December with space heaters for the guests and a fireplace for the wedding party that worked out really well, it was even snowing! That being said consider the time of the year before planning to go outside for the ceremony.
Finally, the most important thing to consider for picking a date is finding a time that at least most of your family and friends can attend. To do this you must consider graduation dates for high school and college age people, work schedules for those that have to travel, and religious holidays. It is often a good idea to set your date on a three day weekend when possible, to allow more time for travel. Also considering religious practices of friends and family is important to be considerate of their beliefs. Lastly graduation dates usually only occur in early May, but may not be an issue unless you have friends or family at that age.
While there is a lot to consider, just remember that while you cannot always make everyone happy, you can, with planning, make most of your guests happy without paying too much or sacrificing the venue and vendors you really want. At the end of the day weddings should be all about the couple and the love they share. As long as that is the main focus, it is much easier to keep all the decisions you need to make in perspective.
